Summary

Brilliant rifle rest for Centrefire or rimfire rifles, Movement is fast and smooth giving just enough resistance to take away any shaking but still keeping you on your target. Excellent gun rest and increases your accuracy a lot.

Courtesy of Bushwear , and thank you again for allowing me to Test and review another great Smart Rest product.

I give you the

SmartRest Eagle Eye Nitro-Force Gun rest

Over the last month I have been testing out this great piece of kit from SmartRest,

Earlier this year I tried out one of their other products which I thought was excellent, The MaxBox Pro Gun rest, and now courtesy of Bushwear I have the opportunity to take it up a level.

The Eagle Eye is a gun rest frame designed to be used in multiple locations,

It is essentially an aluminium frame design that works on a pivot system to allow for free movement with Hydraulic rams at either side giving smooth enough resistance to reduce movement jerks or over-movements when taking a shot or tracking a target.

On the base of the frame there is a adjustable felted feet that are also magnetic allowing you to not just adjust for multiple surface types  but also allowing for a secure attachment to a vehicle without damaging the bodywork. The Magnets allow the frame to be kept in place even when driving the Vehicle, so ideal for those pest controllers that are always on the move. The paperwork says it is good up to 60 mph I only tested it to 30 mph i was not brave enough to test it further.

It’s lightweight design makes it easy to be put into its Hard plastic box (provided) for easy carriage and storage as well as installing and uninstalling from your vehicle or for taking to your location.

The Eagle Eye is fully adjustable so it is suitable for all shapes and sizes of rifles and also features adjustable ram positions to increase or decrease resistance to how you like it.

My thoughts

I tested this on the following calibres , .22lr ( CZ455) , .243 (Browning) and .270 ( Tikka) and found it brilliant for all the set ups. I found this to be a great piece of kit and very flexible and would love to have this as part of my equipment inventory. I found it brilliant for the Field as well as the range and it was really accurate. There was a lot of movement from left to right as well as elevation and the frame was so light and not at all cumbersome.

What lets this down though is the price , at £179.99 it is a lot of money to pay for a gun rest, however, the unit is well engineered with the shooter in mind and is probably top of the range in its field. There is somany practical uses for this rest from Maintenance to just practicing on the range so worth the investment.

A little bit of advice when using this though, MAKE SURE the big resthook is at the front and not at the rear when firing centrefires, this was a little FUBAR on my behalf but it is worth noting. The Largest rest hook (that you might think is designed for the Butt stock) is too big to rest the But of the rifle on and WILL give you a sore face or mouth when shooting larger calibres, the small V rest is for the Butt and not the barrel, however, when using the rest for Maintenance it is best to use the other way.

All in all other than the price i think this is a great piece of equipment and worth getting a hold of one if you can.
