Drone Crime Stopper

The fight on rural crime has went into the 21st Century,

Essex police announced that their rural and wildlife crime division will be using remote controlled drones to to gather evidence in rural crimes in their area.

Rural Essex has faced crime such as burglary, vandalism, farm theft and vehicle theft as well as poaching and hare coarsing, so in the attempt to gather evidence for these cases the Essex police are hoping that these drones will help in the detection and evidence gathering of these crimes.

In a demonstration to local farmers  the Essex police displayed and explained how they are going to implement this modern equipment to combat the growing nature of rural crime.

Operation Buzzard

Operation Buzzard is the codename for the program implemented by Essex police, could this be effective?

Fieldsports Scotland have looked into the usage of such drones in the ciuntryside and have found there are pros and cons in the relation to this equipment.

Pros.

The drones can give you surveilance over a wider area of ground giving you secluded coverage of thise hard to reach areas of your grounds but also keep you in a safe location if there is a crime happening.

The video footage can be used arguably for evidence against any criminal activity that is happening even if it helps to warrant further invesyigation.

You can use the drones to check out your hunting grounds also to not disturb areas as well checking distant fence lines and movement of animals without ling walks.

Cons.

Weather is a big factor in the use of these drones, heavy winds or even light gusts can effect uts operation as well as heavy rain.

Arguably the footage no matter how clear cannot be used in court as deciding evidence specifically in Scotland so even if you do catch a crime in progress you still need physical evidence of the crime itself warranting further investigation.

Range, there is a limited distance these drones can fly but definately ideal for checking out hedgerowed field that are all together.

And finally cost , these drones for a decent one are very very expensive with some reaching theur thousands.

But cost may be warranted.

In the end these drones may have good uses to many hunters and land managers.
